Finding A Pearl Harbor Historian

When people are looking to learn a little about World War II, they should look for a good historian. In fact, a Pearl Harbor historian will know quite a bit about the events that led up to it. History buffs will appreciate talking to a professional. They can learn a bit about why the conflict began in the first place and how it eventually ended.

The credentials of the historian will be important. Most reputable individuals will have received a degree from one of the best school in the country. If they have an advanced degree, such as a PhD or a Master's, this is even better. They'll be able to provide oodles of great information that history buffs will surely eat up rather quickly.

The event itself was at first shrouded in mystery. The Japanese conducted a surprise attack from planes that came in from the west. The Americans sustained hundreds of casualties and the fleet in the Pacific was crippled for quite some time. The country eventually recovered, however, and went on to win World War II.

There are still a number of ships that sit on the bottom of the sea. Tourists, in fact, go to Hawaii in droves each year to see them. These ships are memorials to people who lost their lives in the conflict. The USS Arizona is the most famous one. There is a special memorial dedicated to it. Tours of the memorial area are usually given by local historians who know a bit about what happened with the mean on board.

The tales of the survivors are also interesting. While many of them were badly wounded, a fair number of them reenlisted when they could. With other servicemen, they helped win the war for America and its allies. Many of the accounts from these survivors have been set down on oral history collections. They can be found in colleges and universities throughout the country.

Visiting the memorial is not hard. If people wish to travel to Hawaii, however, they should try to book their trips months in advance. This way, they can get the best possible deal on airfare. Once they see the memorial area, they will surely want to return later in life to show it to their friends and family members.

The best historians have written books and articles on what happened on that day in December in 1941. By going to the local library, most interested parties should be able to find the information they are looking for. They might even check out a few history books to show to their children and grandchildren. Carrying on the legacy of the battle will be very important indeed.

In the end, finding a good historian is quite easy to do and not all that hard to accomplish. With the right amount of research, people can track down someone who knows all about the war. They can then find out about the experiences the sailors and soldiers had on that day in 1941.
