By Kurt Michael

Learning your next language is always a great idea. Spanish is rapidly approaching equal usage as English in the US. You'll very often hear English messages repeated into Spanish. That is a good reason for learning Spanish. But a lot of people have difficulty with learning new languages. Here are a few useful ideas and tips that will help you if new languages are a bit difficult.

It will help a lot to be patient. You won't be fluent in Spanish before the end of the week. Even if you have total recall and can remember your conjugated verbs and vocabulary, you may still have difficulty with sentences, etc. If you exert too much pressure to have fluency to fast, you'll only slow yourself down. Instead let yourself learn slowly. You'll feel more comfortable with the language. If people know you're learning their language, when you talk to them they'll be more patient with you. If you try to pass yourself off as completely fluent too soon you could offend someone!

Work on improving your "ear" for the language. Many languages are more oral than they are written. You will still need to learn how to 'hear' a language as long as it's still alive. Knowing how to write the alphabet or how to write a correct sentence will only get you so far. Of course you'll still have to understand what is being spoken to you. The best thing to do is listen to your language as much as you possibly can. You will know you're on the right track when you can identify your language after hearing a few spoken words.

If you practice, then you'll achieve perfection. Be sure to always talk in your language as often as you can, and don't be concerned about how it looks, or sounds. Even if you aren't great at putting together whole sentences, using the words you know in place of your native language regularly will help commit those words to memory. For Spanish, replace "one" with "uno" and "dinner" with "cena." By using the words often they'll become second nature to you. Then you'll understand the words when you hear them spoken. You'll find that to be very helpful when you converse with people in the language you're learning. We've looked at just a few of the many possible ways you can make learning Spanish easier. Don't be afraid to look for help, whether from people, books or courses.

Watching TV shows and movies in Spanish will help you. Any movie rental store offers foreign language films, and it seems there's no shortage of Spanish TV. You'll hear how Spanish words are suppose to be spoken. This is great if you don't live near a Spanish speaking population. Just turn on the subtitles when you watch. Then as your understanding increases, just turn them off and check yourself. Your learning will go much faster by using this method.
