Learn Spanish - Helpful Hints for Learning Quickly

By Kurt Michael

Even someone who has never tried to learn a different language can learn Spanish. It is widely believed that new languages must be hard to learn, but it's something anyone can pick up. Being able to speak more than one language gives you an instant advantage in many ways. Knowing more than one language can really help if you do any traveling. Yet it can be just as helpful in your own home town. If you only speak one language and want to learn another, Spanish is a very good choice. There are some things that you can do to make your study faster and more enjoyable.

In many parts of America, many people speak Spanish rather than English. Knowing how to speak and translate Spanish into other languages is a valuable skill to have.

Try to remember to have some patience. It's doubtful you'll be fluent in Spanish within 24 hours. You could have all the rules of vocabulary and conjugations memorized yet still have some difficulty with the sentences. If you exert too much pressure to have fluency to fast, you'll only slow yourself down. Instead let yourself learn slowly. If you do this you'll find you're more comfortable with Spanish. Other people will demonstrate more patience with you if they know you're still learning. You need to be careful so you don't offend anyone.

Work on improving your "ear" for the language. A lot of languages tend to be more 'oral' than written. In fact, as long as the language is still "alive" you will have to learn how to hear the language. Knowing how to correctly write a sentence or the alphabet will produce limited results. You'll still have to understand it when you hear it spoken. The best approach is to listen to the language as much as you can. If, after hearing just a few spoken words of Spanish you know what language it is, you're on the sure path to learning success.

Try reviewing your vocabulary by using flashcards. This is a simple but effective way to reinforce your knowledge. Teachers in so many different areas still use them because they have proven helpful over the years. Test yourself or have someone else test you in areas like grammar and using verbs in a variety of tenses. You can use flashcards almost anywhere you go, as they are portable. It make it more fun if someone else helps you with them. The process is extremely simple -on one side of the card, write the word in your own language; on the other side, the same word in Spanish.

Learning Spanish or any new language does not have to be so painful. The beginning may be a little rough, but in time it does get a lot better. You can become fluent if you stay with it and use the hints and tricks.
