Public Speaking Does Not Have To Be Terrifying

By Ralph Lowe

Public speaking is very difficult. There's a urban legend that the biggest fear in most people's lives, greater than even the idea of death itself, is speaking in public. This is complete and total fabricated garbage. It's actually pretty humorous that this cliche ever gets said in public at all. When this platitude is placed under even the most modest amount of scrutiny, it quickly falls apart. If given the option between immediate loss of life and speaking a few words in presence of 50,000 individuals I am sure we can be certain that we all know what that choice would be!

There is a variety of tricks to make public speaking a tad bit easier . One such piece of advice is to locate just a few people distributed throughout the audience, and in lieu of moving your eye gaze around rapidly and at random to speak, instead, to just those select men and women. This has a way of narrowing and limiting the amount of people you feel that you are actually speaking to.

Though, be forewarned, one of the challenges inherent with public speaking is men and women do not feel that they have as much of an obligation to focus. If your individuals you've picked out of the crowd appear obviously sleepy, just be sure to remember that out of the larger collection of people there absolutely will be a few individuals interested in what you have to say. Perhaps those are the folk that still have caffeine in their bloodstream from breakfast.

Another critical tip is to speak loudly! Very often men and women stand up in front of an audience and simply lack the courage or foresight to yell. When you stand up in front of your audience I want you to think of yourself as roaring like a lion. Remember this phrase: "I will roar like a lion." It is deeply irritating and even saddening for an audience to have to try and fail to listen to a speaker that's got no idea whatsoever what the adequate volume is to speak at when talking to body of people. If the problem persists people will eventually lose interest in what you have to say , and you will have to suffer through very sleepy stares.

The last tip is perhaps the most necessary. It's the most common component people neglect altogether and suffer the dire consequences of. Do make sure to go over your speech in advance to the point of nauseousness (ad nauseam). Every ounce of real hurt you pour on yourself prior to your presentation in the form of re-rehearsing your presentation will pay off in spades when you don't stand up in front of people and lose altogether your ability to speak.
